GHD, Leeds

Yorkshire based GHD, the market leading manufacturer of styling irons, recently opened their new prestigious offices in the centre of Leeds. The lighting specification for which was developed by Mark McDonnell of Litetask along with John Sheffield of the Bradford based electrical contractors, Southern & Redfern. Part of the brief was ‘that it must have high visual impact and at the same time be energy efficient’.
The ‘wow’ factor of the lighting design was provided by the use of Philips SSL ‘IW Cove Powercore‘ LED luminaires. IW or ‘intelligent white’ Cove is an LED luminaire which features colour temperature control from 3,000 to 6500k, the luminaires have end to end locking connectors for continuous streams of light and incorporate the ‘Powercore’ technology; it has power and data processing within the unit thus eliminating the need for an external power supply. In total 718 lengths of IW Cove Powercore were installed all of which were controlled through a Mode DMX lighting control system.
The use of energy efficient LED technology did not end there as the emergency lighting also used an LED light source. The ‘emLED’ from Fagerhult has completely revolutionised the design of emergency lighting luminaires; the use of a high intensity white light-emitting diode has enabled Fagerhult to manufacture a small, unobtrusive and very discreet unit which is destined to set the trend for all emergency lighting in the future.
Not only does this installation have that high visual impact, it has utilized the very latest in LED lighting technology and control, making it a very energy efficient ‘truly green’ installation; it not only met the brief but it also lived up to Litetask’s maxim:
‘Litetask are committed to the delivery of energy efficient lighting solutions focused on the use of energy saving light sources and control gear, and minimising CO2 emissions’.
